An international operation led by Europol led to the crackdown on a criminal group that trafficked girls from Ecuador and Colombia to Albania and other countries in the Balkans.

The operation led to the arrest of several people and the discovery of a scheme of how the prostitution ring with Latina girls operated.

Report TV, citing sources, reports that during a search of the Colombian apartment of Lucas Betancur and his father, who are considered the head of this criminal group, Bitcoin codes and numerous money transfer receipts suspected of coming from prostitution activities were found.

It is estimated that from January until the moment the group was busted, over 1 million euros were transferred, mainly from countries in the region and from Albania to Colombia. Not only that, but several apartments or hotels were also discovered that were used as prostitution dens in Tirana for Colombian girls.

According to sources, it is learned that one of the arrested, Mirel Shperdheja, is the owner of a real estate agency, and had made 15 Airbnb apartments available for prostitution, Report TV reports.

While Ilmar Gugashi is the owner of the hotel near the Supreme Court, the building also used in this activity.

The other arrested person, Dritan Suka, communicated directly with Lukas in Colombia, while also renting out apartments to girls who were exploited.

An official statement from the State Police states that the main role in recruiting girls from Latin American countries was played by 25-year-old LB, arrested in Colombia, who also took care of their travel and accommodation in Albania. Investigations have revealed that if any of the exploited citizens refused to continue practicing prostitution, then they were kept by force and threats against their families in Colombia, including close relatives.

Others investigated were responsible for ensuring logistical conditions for accommodation and managing the network, also using online platforms called 'escorts'.

One of the arrested has adapted a hotel on "Reshit Çollaku" street in Tirana as a place for prostitution by trafficked girls. In this hotel, several citizens of Kazakhstan origin, who were housed there, were used for prostitution. Meanwhile, another investigated person distributed narcotics to some of the girls, as well as facilitated contacts with clients.

According to the announcement, one of the arrested collected the proceeds from criminal activity and transferred them via cryptocurrencies to the accounts of 25-year-old L. B in Colombia.

The operation against this group was carried out in cooperation with the law enforcement and justice authorities of Colombia, Croatia, Europol and Eurojust. At the end of the investigation, 19 security measures were issued, 9 of which were executed in Albania and 10 in Colombia. Meanwhile, three other people were declared wanted and 48 foreign citizens of various nationalities were criminally prosecuted.
