5 police officers have been suspended from duty
After the publication of a video on social networks, showing two Traffic Police employees and one of them allegedly accepting a bribe from a driver to avoid administrative action, the State Police has taken immediate measures.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has suspended two Traffic Police inspectors in Fier for serious disciplinary violations and suspicions of corrupt actions.
According to the official announcement, the officers acted contrary to standard procedures during the control of a driver, seriously damaging the image of the institution.
A disciplinary investigation has been launched against them, while the case is also being verified by the Police Supervision Agency, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office.
At the same time, the State Police announces that three other police officers in different regions of the country have been suspended from duty. One of them was detained by order of the Prosecutor for abuse of office, another is suspected of using narcotics, while a third officer was arrested by the Police Supervision Agency for violating traffic rules.
Among the suspended officers is Besart Kovaçi, who accompanied Merando Nikulaj at the time of the gunfight in Lezha.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has suspended from duty:
Inspector BK , who was detained on February 2, 2026 by order of the Prosecutor, suspected of the criminal offense of "Abuse of office", in connection with an event that occurred in Rrilë, Lezha on February 1, 2026.
Inspector EP , General Patrol Officer at the Mat Police Station, suspected of using narcotics.
Inspector EB, General Patrol Officer at the Krujë Police Station, arrested on February 2, 2026 by the Police Supervision Agency, as a suspect for the criminal offense of "Violation of road traffic rules".
