A 43-year-old Albanian man has been arrested in Italy on suspicion of attempted murder against his wife. It is learned that the latter had requested a separation and had left the apartment.
The woman, a mother of three, was left seriously injured, suffering a serious neck injury. According to reports, she was able to escape thanks to her resistance to the perpetrator's continuous blows.
The incident occurred in the Matera area, in Tuscany, where the 43-year-old attacked his wife with a meat cleaver, which was later seized by police as material evidence, inside his vehicle.
According to preliminary investigations, the woman had left home due to constant physical and psychological violence, taking refuge in the Novo Siri area. However, the 43-year-old had followed her and two days earlier had blocked her path, violently attacking her.
The perpetrator attempted to complete the crime, but the immediate intervention of the carabinieri forced him to flee. After a chase, the police managed to stop him.
During the search of the hotel room where he was temporarily staying, officers also found a quantity of cocaine, which was seized as material evidence.
By order of the Public Prosecutor in Matera, the 43-year-old was taken to the local prison. The Preliminary Investigation Judge deemed the arrest lawful and ordered his detention on remand, on charges of attempted murder.
