Footage of the accident at 137 Peshkopi has been published, where a drunk driver hit a police officer with his car.
In the footage provided, the police officer is seen walking on the sidewalk, with his back to the car, while the vehicle, which was coming at speed, left the road and hit the officer.
Officer Veli Gjura was transported by helicopter to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, while the driver of the vehicle was escorted to the police station.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday at around 18:30, at the Velia intersection in Peshkopi. A 27-year-old man, driving a Golf, is suspected of losing control of the vehicle, going off the road and crashing into a shop.
The police announce that, from preliminary verifications, it has resulted that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and has been escorted to the police station for further procedural actions.
The investigation team is working to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
