German police have destroyed a cocaine trafficking group from Latin America, led by an Albanian.
According to local media, the group led by the 39-year-old Albanian brought 48 kilograms of cocaine from South America.
The cocaine, with a street value of around 2.4 million euros, was discovered in the port of Hamburg in a container loaded with paper. Investigators seized the cocaine and used the container as bait. When a shipping company brought the container to Bremen, the police intervened. "While the container was being unloaded, 6 suspects were arrested by special forces," said Julia Söllner, press spokesperson for the Hanover Customs Investigation Office.
Shortly after the first arrests, 14 properties in Bremen, Stuhr, Ganderkesee and Delmenhorst were searched. Investigators temporarily arrested 5 other people.
During the searches, investigators seized 160 grams of cannabis, precision scales, vacuum sealing machines, anabolic steroids, various mobile phones, computers and storage devices as well as transport documents for containers and other documents as evidence. Three cars, various accounts, 900 euros in cash and a high-quality watch were also seized.
The operation was supported by the forces of the main customs offices in Hamburg and Bremen and the police forces of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, as well as their special units. Further investigations by the Hanover Customs Investigation Office are ongoing.
