The heads of the Italian prosecution continue to sound the alarm about the strengthening of the Albanian mafia. Criminal groups led by Albanians seem to have started to rule the law in Italy, and for this reason, the authorities have requested measures to be taken.
During the reporting to the anti-mafia parliamentary commission, the chief prosecutor of Rome, Francesco Lo Voi and his deputy Ilaria Calò, addressed the problems faced by the Italian authorities in the long war with the mafia.
Prosecutor Calò said that maximum attention should be paid to foreign crime, Albanian and Chinese, mainly in their money laundering and drug trafficking activities.
Ilaria Calò said that Albanians are no longer what they used to be. According to her, in their beginnings they were simply apprentices of the Italian mafia, but now they are the ones who mediate with international groups.
" Last year, several apparently clean businesses were identified in the Esquilino neighborhood that actually served to transfer large sums of money abroad, but without crossing the border. In the last decade, the groups that have received attention in our territory are Albanians. Those individuals who ten years ago we found as drug suppliers, in Aprilia, Tor Bella Monca and Ponte Milvio, have evolved and now we find them as international brokers ", she said.
While the chief prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi emphasized that in the investigations, links were found between pure criminals and "political" criminals. According to him, the relationship between Roman crime and some political circles is becoming closer and closer.
Earlier it was the prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, who stated that the Albanian mafia is the second most powerful mafia in Europe after the Italian one as far as the drug market is concerned.
He said that the Albanian mafia exists because when a criminal organization manages to control territories and instill fear in public opinion, then it is not just a group of people involved in crimes, but a mafia.
" The Albanian mafia is the second mafia after the Italian one in terms of the drug market. She is in close cooperation with Ndragheta. There is a criminal organization and an organization that organizes a drug shipment or carries out a series of robberies. But at the moment when it becomes structured, significant and stable in the territory, we can no longer talk about criminal organizations but about the mafia.
