Luxury villas were turned into shepherd's houses, 8 Albanians are arrested

The Spanish police have arrested 8 Albanians, as part of a criminal gang accused of selling marijuana in the province of Valencia.

They are accused of being a criminal organization, drug trafficking, electricity fraud, human trafficking and violation of workers' rights. One of the arrested also had a court decision for the security measure "prison arrest".

The agents searched eight houses in different parts of the province of Valencia, specifically in Valencia, Ontinyent, Alaquàs, Utiel, Turís, Alfafar and Chiva, and destroyed four marijuana plantations. Police seized 2,024 plants in various stages of flowering with a total weight of 300 kilograms, 40 kilograms of dry marijuana ready for distribution and consumption, as well as abundant material for cultivation and preparation of the material for distribution and sale.

The investigations carried out by the Unit for Drugs and Organized Crime (UDYCO) of Valencia, where the Local Police of Turís (Valencia) also cooperated, began at the end of 2023, after the identification and localization of a criminal group of Albanian origin devoted to the cultivation and the distribution of marijuana, which would have moved from other parts of Spain due to police pressure.

Luxury villas

The suspects have set up the plantations in villas, many of them luxurious, located in residential areas so as not to arouse suspicion and have illegally connected them to electricity in order to make the most of their criminal activity. They also brought foreign nationals to Spain expressly to devote themselves to the cultivation of plantations, providing them with food and basic necessities to prevent them from leaving their homes. Identification documents were also taken as a means of control to prevent their escape and denunciation.

Agents discovered that members of the organization even advertised attractive job offers, which were fake, with which they managed to recruit at least one citizen of Greek origin, who after moving to Spain, discovered that the real job consisted of caring for marijuana crops 24 hours a day, not allowing him to leave the building where he slept and worked. The drugs were destined for Eastern European countries.
