Police have arrested 36-year-old Mariglent Daiu after he was caught with 223,000 euros in undeclared cash at the Port of Durres.
The young man, a resident of Italy, was caught while attempting to take over 223 thousand undeclared euros out of Albania through the port of Durres.
During the operation, the young man was arrested after 223,200 euros of undeclared money were found in his backpack. The amount of money is suspected to originate from criminal activity.
"Port, Durrës/The police operation codenamed "Asset" is finalized."

A 36-year-old man, resident in Italy, has been arrested for attempting to take money out of Albania without declaring it to the tax authorities.
As a result of detailed controls and verifications at the entry/exit of Albania, with the objective of preventing and combating border crimes, the Border Police services of the port of Durrës, in cooperation with the customs authorities, finalized the "Asset" operation.
During the operation, the Albanian citizen, MD, 36 years old, resident in Italy, was arrested in flagrante delicto, because 223,200 euros were found in his backpack, which he was attempting to take out of Albania, without declaring to the PKK.
"The procedural materials were passed to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, where investigations are continuing to determine the source of this money," the police announced.
