At first sight they were owners of a car dealership, but behind this cover was hidden their real activity as drug lords at the head of a powerful international organization composed of Albanians and Italians.
The Italian court has decided to sentence the criminal organization composed of Albanians and Italians to 40 years in prison.
The gang was hit during the mega-operation "Double Game" of the Guardia di Finanza, coordinated by the DDA, the Antimafia District Directorate of Ancona in 2023. 12 people ended up in handcuffs, including the leaders of the criminal organization, the two Albanian brothers Etmond and Klenis Qevani , 47 and 39 years old, residents of Porto Sant'Elpidio and owners of a car company.
The two, along with six other members of the group, requested and received summary judgment, a procedure that provides for a reduction of one-third of the sentence.
Instead, the other four clan members sought a deal. In the courtroom was a large group of defense lawyers: Vando Scheggia, Maurizio Cacaci, Igor Giostra, Domenico Biasco, Giancarlo Giulianelli, Francesca Petruzzo, Chirstian Agliani, Marco Maglietta and Marielvia Valeri.
At the end of the trial, Klenis Qevani was sentenced to ten years and eight months, while Etmond "Renato" Qevani was sentenced to seven years in prison.
According to Italian media, Kleon Mema, 39 years old from Porto Sant'Elpidio was sentenced to three years; Ferdinando Bongiovanni, 62 from Civitanova Marche, five years; Arjan Ndoka, 49 years old from Porto Recanati, five years; Geri Skilja, 29 years old from Frosinone, three years and four months; Elidon Shkalla, 28 years old from Frosinone, five years; Adele D'Avino, 60, of Civitanova, one year.
The mega-operation to crack down on the group began at dawn on June 29, 2023 in the provinces of Fermo, Macerata, Ancona, Pesaro-Urbino and Frosinone, as well as in Albania, Belgium and Spain, and involved 100 police officers. Those arrested were responsible for international trafficking and the trade of cocaine and hashish. The complex investigation, launched by Porto Sant'Elpidio, after the seizure of 20 kg of cocaine, had made it possible to discover the activity and structure of a criminal group based in Fermo.
However, the first steps of the operation were launched in 2020, when, as part of another investigation carried out by Gico, a former justice associate from Campania, responsible for a large group of Italian drug dealers, provided information.
From there, investigators reconstructed the drug supply chain, mainly cocaine, which, thanks to a powerful Albanian organization, was regularly imported. The organizers of the criminal association were in Porto Sant'Elpidio and were the two Qevani brothers: Klenisi, who had sensed the danger, had managed to escape but was caught in Belgium, Etmond had been arrested instead in the Fermos area.
The two Albanians transported the drugs through cars which arrived in Porto Sant'Elpidio and were then distributed throughout the provinces of Marche and central Italy.
