How could he live in the same house where he walled Sibora? Psychologists

The Italian authorities have requested information from the Spanish ones, about the investigations against Marco Romeo, the 45-year-old from Nettuno (Rome), accused of murdering his Spanish partner Paula and the Italian-Albanian Sibora Gagani. Both murders took place in Torremolinos, Malaga, Spain.

While the family of Sibora, who was missing since 2014, remains waiting for the DNA test, to be sure that the body found walled up in the apartment where she lived 9 years ago belongs to her, the killer the suspect remains in prison. It is precisely from the cell in Spain that the first details of the 45-year-old's psychological profile emerge.

The 45-year-old, according to what the media in the neighboring country reports, is a "typical substance abuser, with a pronounced lack of impulse control related to jealousy and obvious antisocial traits." At least this is what the Spanish expert of the Official College of Psychology, Mariela Checa, says. It is this profile that makes the authorities suspect that he may have committed other crimes, and in Italy, investigators are examining other disappearances that occurred in the Nettuno area and in the province of Rome, behind which Romeo's violent hand may lie -s.

This profile also explains how it is possible to lead a normal life, since the disappearance of Sibora who was 22 years old, in July 2014, knowing that the body was in a wooden box, walled in the house where they lived together. This behavior, in psychological terms, is related to dissociative amnesia, which is a way to protect oneself mentally, the expert explains. This amnesia can appear in patients who have experienced a dramatic event and cause that event to be totally blocked by their brain and in this way they continue an absolutely normal life, as it actually happened.

The discovery of Sibora's body after 9 years came thanks to a spontaneous confession of Romeo, testimony from which he later retracted. However, it was enough for the Spanish police to search the house where he had lived with Sibora.

The psychologist, who specializes in the study of violent profiles and chronic cases, points out that it is likely that the "murder of Paula", who was stabbed to death at the age of 28 in May, "has no connection" with that of Sibora.

"That spontaneous confession to the police when he saw the photo of her disappearance and the bouquet of flowers that was found on her corpse are related to remorse. The flowers are a gesture that symbolizes the request for forgiveness, even after what he did," said Checa.

Asked if there would have been more victims if Marco Romeo had not been arrested, the psychologist answers "probably yes" because as she explains "he does not understand the lack of impulse control and where the limits are". /Clan
