Other details have emerged regarding the arrest of Safet Bajri, against whom the GJKKO had imposed the security measure of 'prison arrest' at the request of SPAK in connection with the murder of Fatbardh Lici, an event that occurred in 2018.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta, speaking on the "People" show, said that SPAK trapped Bajri, after RENEA's previous operation to arrest him failed.
According to Çelmeta, after the failure of the operation, the authorities issued an official statement emphasizing that the checks in Shkodra were not related to Safet Bajri, but to a gunfight in the village of Rrënzë.
This move caused Bajri to come out publicly and deny any involvement in this event and the Bushati massacre.
" Three days ago, on February 18, in Shkodra, operational forces and those of RENEA undertook an operation in the Dobraç neighborhood with the aim of escorting Safet Bajri, but he was not found ," the journalist explained.
A day later, on February 19, SPAK issued an official statement stating that security measures had been taken against three people suspected of shooting in the village of Rrënzë. The statement did not mention Safet Bajri's name at all.
"SPAK trapped Safet Bajri by issuing this official announcement just one day after the inspection, where it declared that it had initiated criminal proceedings against three people for the incident in the village of Rrenzë in Bushati. In this proceeding, Bajri's name did not appear, while there was a security measure for him from SPAK dated February 17. Regarding this incident, Safet Bajri has given an interview in which he claims that he has no connection with the incident in the village of Rrenzë and the Bushati massacre. Meanwhile, hidden in the drawers of the Special Court, there was an arrest warrant issued against him ," said Çelmeta.
After the authorities' statement, Bajri went to the media to deny his involvement in the aforementioned events. The authorities then asked him to appear at the Shkodra Police Department, telling him that he needed to provide a DNA profile for another case.
Convinced that he had clarified the situation, he turned himself in to the police, unaware that he had an arrest warrant for the murder of Fatbardh Lici.
" After RENEA could not find him, it seems that the authorities changed strategy. They summoned him for a routine procedure, but as soon as he presented himself to the police, they arrested him and transferred him to Tirana, where he was informed of the charges and the security measure ," concluded Çelmeta.
