The Italian authorities have released from prison Alket Hatina, the Albanian known as the "Drug Lord".

The Court of Appeal of Milan, with a decision dated December 11, 2023, considers that the sentence carried out in Albania, the decision given by the Albanian courts for 10 years in prison, is for the same criminal offenses and under these conditions is considered to be expiated.
Within the legal deadlines, Hatia's defenders appealed to the court after his extradition on August 31 of this year.
According to the Code of Criminal Procedure of Italy, extradited persons have the right to reopen the process within the legal term of 30 days, a practice that was also followed this time by Alket Hatija.
In 2006, the first instance sentenced Hatia to 44 years in prison, which at the time went to 30 years due to a summary trial, accepted by his lawyer.
Subsequently, Italy asked Albania to arrest him for the purpose of extradition, but the 2007 arrest resulted in his 10-year prison sentence with a summary trial in Albania, and the extradition was not carried out.
