Drug trafficking with Albanian cartels in South America, 28 people are arrested

The head of the gang is Marcello Colafigli, who, although he was on parole after being convicted of two murders, had managed to plan the sale and purchase of large quantities of narcotics from Spain and Colombia by maintaining relations with exponents of the 'Ndragheta', the 'Camorra' , the Foggia mafia and with Albanians involved in a South American cartel.

Since the early hours of the morning, in the provinces of Rome, Naples, Foggia and Viterbo, the Italian police have executed 28 arrest warrants, including 11 prison arrests, 16 house arrests and 1 signature obligation, against persons suspected of international drug trafficking and other serious crimes.

The investigations launched by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Rome and directed by the DDA of Rome in June 2020, made it possible to gather information regarding the existence of a criminal organization, with a logistical base in the capital and operating in Magliana and on the coast of Lazio , run by one of the notorious Italian mobsters of the so-called 'Banda della Magliana'.

The head of the gang is Marcello Colafigli, who, although he was on parole after being convicted of two murders, had managed to plan the sale and purchase of large quantities of narcotics from Spain and Colombia by maintaining relations with exponents of the 'Ndragheta', the 'Camorra' , the Foggia mafia and with Albanians involved in a South American cartel, the Italian media write.

Marcello Colafigli, known as "Marcellone", inspired the character of "Bufallo" in the book "Romanzo Criminale" and at the age of 70, according to what was reconstructed by the police, he had not left the criminal scene of the capital.

Colafigli was recognized along with Franco Giuseppucci, Enrico De Pedis, Maurizio Abbatino and Nicolino Selis as one of the promoters of the Banda della Magliana, active in Rome from the late 1970s and early 1990s. Sentenced to several life sentences, he was also found guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Duke Massimo Grazioli Lante della Rovere (considered the act by which the gang began its criminal activity) and of the murder, as an instigator, of Enrico De Pedis. , known as "Renatino".

The 28 arrested persons are accused for various reasons, for international drug trafficking, attempted robbery, attempted extortion and possession of weapons without a permit.
