He provided them with "grass houses", the ally is sentenced together

A British citizen, the owner of several different buildings that he allowed to be used as a "bar house" has been sentenced in the United Kingdom. The media write that Jeremy Southgate allowed an Albanian criminal gang to take his houses in Hull, where they ran a total of 17 "bar houses" worth millions of pounds.

Southgate bought properties cheap at auction and then set up a bogus lettings agency to manage them. The court heard the 63-year-old father-of-two had a large legitimate income but had fraudulently taken out two Covid recovery loans by overstating his current rental income to help fund the scheme he had in mind.

According to the media, he started cooperating with the Albanians since September 2019. In all cases of building "grass houses", energy was stolen.

"These were his properties. He used a legitimate business as camouflage. The ghost tenants were registered as residents in the houses where cannabis was grown," said the prosecutor in the case, Rupert Doswell.

As a result of this large operation, a total of 911 kilograms of cannabis were produced, benefiting the gang more than 11 million pounds per year. During a search on a ship owned by Southgate, police found over £300,000 in cash and forged identity documents.

The Englishman's defense lawyer said Southgate had a limited role in guaranteeing the buildings. However, he was found guilty of manufacturing class B drugs, money laundering and fraud. So he received a sentence of 11 years in prison.

"You were actively involved," the judge told him.

But along with Southgate, several Albanians were also convicted as being involved in this event. E Mrishaj was sentenced to 5 and a half years in prison, D. Mrishaj and E. Rrushi were sentenced to 3 years and F. Kasaj to 7 years.
