The English media have clarified the details of the suicide on the hotel ship in England of an Albanian immigrant.

The "Daily Telegraph" newspaper reported that he is the 27-year-old from Manëza in Durrës, Leonard Farruku.

In the last conversation with the relatives, the article states, Leonardi had said that the conditions on the hotel ships were good but the security guards treated the immigrants like animals.

Leonardi's sister, who lives in Italy, has declared that "she will find peace only when she learns the truth about what happened that night with her brother on the Bibby Stockholm hotel ship".

According to her, he arrived in England with the dream of a better job and most importantly to get a permanent residence permit in England.

And in order to achieve this goal, she emphasized, he obeyed the request of the Home Office to go and be accommodated on that ship.

This hotel ship was rented by the English government to mitigate the daily cost of 8 million asylum seekers who arrived in England during the last two years on dinghies, among them 12,800 Albanians.

About the tragic incident of Leonard Farruk's suicide, a Home Office official said:

"This was a tragic incident and our condolences go out to those affected. The well-being of those in our care is of primary importance and we take responsibility for this very seriously. This incident is being investigated by the police and the forensic medicine in analyzing the facts and circumstances of this death".

Farruk arrived in the UK on a small boat last August as part of a number of more than 12,000 Albanians across the Channel, a quarter of all crossings last year.

Born in the village of Manez, near the city of Durrës, Albania's second largest city, his sister said he came to the UK in search of work and to secure indefinite leave to remain.

"He came to the UK with the dream of finding a better job and, most importantly, of getting indefinite leave to remain in the UK," Ms Dushku said.

She said they had lost both their parents, a loss that changed her brother.

"Leonard became a different person when our mother died. Her death changed him," she said.

She said he was determined to get indefinite leave to remain in the UK, so he wanted to "meet all Home Office requirements".
