The person in the photo is Valter Bami, who was released by the Tirana Court today.
He was arrested on July 7, 2023 after the assassination attempt by Gentian Bejtjas in the village of Larushk in Kruja, where Gentian Bejtjas' brother-in-law, Ramazan Sina, was killed and his two minor children were injured.
Valter Bami is not an unknown name to the police, as he is known for a number of criminal records.
While giving his first testimony, Bami denied having anything to do with the incident, saying that at those moments he was staying at his house.
However, sources from the police say that they are convinced that the 37-year-old shot that night in Larushka. Evidence of gunpowder marks was made in an electronic microscope, which was decisive for issuing the arrest warrant for Bam.
So far, there is only one charge against him, that of carrying a weapon without a permit. Gunpowder marks were found on Valter Bam's left hand, an indicator that increases the suspicion that he is behind the crime.
Along with Bami, two other people who were in his company were accompanied to the police.
Valter Bami is the brother of Durim Bami, also a well-known name in the world of crime.
Durim Bami is known as Nikla's "strongman", which has disturbed Albanian politics.
In 2015, they put explosives in Bam's "BMW X5" car with license plate AA 858 IS, but there were no injuries.
On March 3, 2015, he was arrested by the police for a false report following Tom Doshi's accusations that the former president, Ilir Meta, had ordered an assassination attempt to execute him through Durim Bami, against the payment of 500,000 euros.
Bami was caught trying to leave for Montenegro.
After his arrest, he said he was a contract killer and had been paid by Ilir Meta to kill Tom Doshi. The defendant together with Durim Bami was Tom Doshi and Mark Frroku, for whom the Prosecution asked for 1 year in prison for the charge of false report.
How did the assassination attempt on Bejtja happen where the brother-in-law was killed?
We recall that shortly after midnight on July 4, from the barrage of bullets in Gentian Bejtje's house, his brother-in-law Ramazan Sino was killed and Bejtje's two minor sons, aged 10 and 13, were injured.
The target of the assassination is suspected to be Gentian Bejtja, who had arrived in Albania two weeks before July 4, 2023. This information was apparently provided by his opponents, who organized the murder. It is suspected that 3 people, who were driving a car, took part in the assassination. After firing a volley of bullets in the direction of Bejtje's house, they burned the vehicle about 6 kilometers away. Then it is suspected that the perpetrators were helped by other people.
In order to identify them, on Tuesday the police of Fushë-Kruja carried out checks in 3 apartments, as well as accompanied 3 people who might have knowledge of the event, Durim, Valter Bami and Marklen Hakla. After giving statements for several hours in a row and separately from each other, they were released. They denied knowing about the assassination, excluding the possibility of having conflicts with Gentian Bejtje.
