The Police Supervision Agency has arrested officer Shkëlzen Gjonaj, who was filmed the day before stealing money from a car, as well as beating a young man in a bar.
The Shkodra Prosecutor's Office has issued a restraining order for Shkëlzen Gjonaj, who is an order specialist at the Shkodra Police Station, after he was filmed stealing money from a car and beating a young man in a bar. The injunction against the 50-year-old was issued for committing the criminal offenses of "Abuse of duty", "Theft committed by abuse of duty" and "Intimidation", to the detriment of citizens with the initials BU and AB
For the case broadcast last evening in the media and for which the State Police and the Police Supervision Agency reacted immediately, the Ministry of the Interior thanks the show "Fiks Fare" for denouncing the police officer who abused his duty. This employee has been arrested by AMP and will face justice to receive the punishment according to the law.
We encourage such journalistic investigations, but also the referral of citizens to State Police employees who commit legal or ethical violations during the exercise of their duties. Next, we are determined to clean the State Police of corrupt employees, who have no place in the ranks of this force.
During the year 2022 alone, AMP has referred 357 cases for corruption and abuse of office, of which 168 with coercive measures. In the first 5 months of this year, 119 cases were referred, of which 34 were of a restrictive nature. This is an indication of our full will to remove from the State Police those who make the uniform of this troop dirty' - announces AMP.
