Convinced that he has nothing to do with the crime, the 28-year-old, through a request from the defense lawyer, is asking for freedom. But despite the presence of the Portuguese in court, the court session did not take place due to the lack of an interpreter, being postponed until Monday.
The Portuguese Ruben Saraiva was extradited to Albania on December 31, 2023, after the decision of the Moroccan Court which accepted the request of the Albanian authorities. Since that time, he has been in detention in Tirana, waiting to face the Albanian justice system, while up to this stage of the investigation, he has continuously denied having anything to do with the murder of Ardian Nikulaj.
For this crime that happened on April 19, 2023 in Shengjin, 3 British citizens and Edmond Haxhia, suspected of ordering this murder, were arrested in England. Even for the latter, the Albanian authorities have sent a request for their extradition from Britain to Albania, but there is still no decision.
The murder of businessman Ardian Nikulaj was in the wake of the chain of revenge that the victim's family has with another tribe, a conflict that has produced many victims over the years.
