The murder of Ardian Nikulaj

The British media "Daily Mail" has devoted an article to the murder of businessman Ardian Nikulaj, as it has revealed details about the trial against the perpetrators in Britain.

" 3 Britons, including a young mother, risk spending the rest of their lives in prison in Albania, as it is claimed that they are part of a group of murderers", says the introduction of the prestigious British article .

Businessman Ardian Nikulaj, 51, was shot six times by a man in April and the crime was filmed by security cameras. Detectives claim that 3 Britons, including the mother of a 7-year-old boy, were involved.

The suspicions of the authorities are that Edmond Haxhia contacted Harriet Bridgeman, Steven Hunt and Thomas Mithan to help him settle the accounts of several decades with Nikulajn.

Now the Albanian government demands that these three Britons be extradited to Albania and that the trial against them for murder begin.

" If convicted, they risk a minimum of 31 years in prison. Westminster magistrates heard that the relatives of Haxhi and Nikulaj were in a violent feud dating back years to a murder in a gas station for money ", writes the Daily Mail, which later also gives the chronology of the event.

On June 25, 1997, in Lezhë, Gëzim Lekstakaj and Lorent Gjetja allegedly killed Pëllumb Nikulaj, the brother of Ardian Nikulaj. In September of that year, Lekstakaj and Gjetja were shot dead as a sign of revenge, an attack that is said to have been organized by Nikulaj.

Then, in March 1999, in a village in Albania, two members of the Lekstakaj family, Gjovalini and Pjetri, shot at Nikoll Nikulaj, Ardian's uncle.

Nikola retaliated with pairs, killing Gjovalini and wounding Pjetri. The Daily Mail writes that the latter escaped towards Birmingham. In 2007, Albania tried to extradite Peter, but failed. Lekstakaj's lawyer argued that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and Albanian prisons were unable to treat this condition. The judge in the case accepted this argument.

As for the last case, Daily Mail writes that Bridgeman, Hunt and Mithan traveled to Albania to monitor Ardian Nikulaj in his bar in Shengjin. Doubts are that Haxhia is the organizer. Another person, a 27-year-old from Portugal, is suspected as the perpetrator who fired the gun.

" On April 19, in a bar in Shengjin, Ardian Nikulaj was shot 6 times and killed. Security cameras from the bar show how the incident happened. You can watch a person enter the bar wearing a motorcycle helmet and a fluorescent vest, fire six shots and leave on a gray motorcycle. This is clearly a premeditated attack that had a significant level of planning and specifically targeted the victim, described as being involved in a blood feud in Albania between two rival families," said Zoe Lash, who is representing the Albanian government in the trial, according to the Daily Mail . Mail.

"Hajjia is suspected of being the organizer of the murder. Edmond Haxhia is a cousin with a family called Lekstakaj. They have been feuding with the victim's family since 1997, when it is alleged that they killed the victim's brother", Lash further stated.

Haxhia, Hunt, Bridgeman and Mithan deny that they kept the victim under surveillance. Haxjia denies having organized the murder. Haxhia, Hunt and Mithan remain in custody. Only Bridgeman was able to get out on bail after her father paid $20,000. According to the Daily Mail, the extradition hearing is expected to be held in November.
