The life convict Sokol Mjacaj, who executed Arben Lleshi inside the high-security prison in Peqin and injured Indrit Shaqjen, has been questioned by the investigative group regarding the serious incident.
Sources for the media inform that Mjacaj has given details about the event and clarified the mechanisms. Sokol Mjacaj has appealed to the Special Court the decision on his isolation in the "41 Biss" regime.
On December 15, 2023, at around 1:20 p.m., the Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja made public the decision to isolate Sokol Mjacajt in the 41 Biss system, as there was evidence that he communicated with the outside and continued criminal activity from the cell.
But after learning this news, Sokol Mjacaj went into action in the prison of Peqin, taking the machine gun with which he approached the cell where the convicted murderer Arben Lleshi was. He called the name of the convict whom he shot with two bullets leaving his cellmate Indri Shaqja injured.
Mjacaj, sentenced to life for the murder of two Czech tourists in 2015 in Prekal of the Great Highlands, surrendered his weapon and was arrested an hour after the incident, in the presence of the general director of prisons. The murder was allegedly carried out for pay, for revenge and led to the arrest of the prison director, the police chief and 10 security personnel.
The court of Elbasan communicated to Mjacaj a new measure of arrest, while the Prosecution of Elbasan brought charges against the second convict, Indrit Shaqja, with suspicions that he was involved in the murder of Arben Lleshi after Sokol Mjacaj. There are doubts that Indrit Shaqja, who was also injured by gunfire, was involved in Mjacaj's plan.
