The Court of Appeals upholds the 18-year prison sentence for police officer Arjan Tase for fatally hitting 7-year-old Jonada Avdiaj with a speedboat.
Tase was tried and convicted of indirect intentional murder, as he went ashore with his speedboat to bring his family and took the life of a minor who had come from England to vacation in the south of the country.
How did the incident happen?
The serious incident occurred on August 2, 2022 at Potami Beach in Himara, where 7-year-old Jonada Avdia was struck to death by a rubber boat with police officer Arjan Tase as the driver, while she was bathing in the sea. The minor was initially hit by the front of the boat and then her body was cut by the propellers, dying on the spot.
The child, originally from Tropoja, lived abroad with her family in England, but had returned to her homeland for vacation. Tase was a former Chief of Police in Himara, and when the incident occurred he held the position of Chief of Police in Elbasan, but Gledis Nano, at that time Director General of the State Police, definitively expelled him from the police.
