A first edition of Harry Potter has sold at auction for more than £45,000 (around €53,000).
The novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, went up for sale at Lyon and Turnbull auction house in Edinburgh.
JK Rowling's copy of the book is one of the first 500 printed in 1997; the publishers produced only a small number of copies due to the uncertainty of its success.
It was expected to sell for between £40,000 and £60,000, due to some unique faults. The book eventually sold for £45,201 (€53,500), and contains a misspelling of 'Philosopher' on the bottom cover and '1 stick' written twice on page 53 in the equipment list.
It was acquired in London by its previous owner two decades ago at Adrian Harrington's Kensington Church Street Shop.
The extremely rare book is in excellent condition and could be called 'every Harry Potter collector's dream',” said the head of books and manuscripts.
