After the publication of the 2024 artistic calendar by the National Theater of Opera and Ballet, there are dissatisfied artists.
One of them is the composer David Tukiçi, whose opera "Rozafa", contrary to his expectations, was not part of the program, despite the fact that the Ministry of Culture announced it as the winning work. The artist contested the decision through a reaction on social networks.
"I decided to share with you a concern asking for your opinion and sensibility! My father used to say that a true composer must write a lyric opera in his career. Inspired by his advice, but also by my love for the genre of opera, I managed to complete my first opera "La vita è sogno", which was successfully performed for three consecutive nights at the Opera and Ballet Theater in 2010, in Tirana. At the end of 2021, I finished composing my second opera, based on the legend "Rozafa", with the libretto of the well-known Albanian playwright, Mr. Fadil Kraja. After many attempts to show it in Shkodër or Tirana, I finally managed to schedule it in the artistic calendar of TKOB to be staged on September 22 - 23, 2023. Also, this opera was announced as the winning project by the Ministry of Culture for the year 2023 ", says Tukiçi.
Meanwhile, Tukiçi points out the fact that the project was removed from the programming on the very day that the scenography project was abandoned, an element that, according to him, had enough time to be replaced.
"But, at the beginning of March 2023, i.e. 6 months before the date announced in the calendar, the scenographer resigned from this project and on that same day, the general director Mrs. Abigeila Voshtina removed the opera "Rozafa" from the program! I call it an arrogant decision, without a logical and kind explanation, I would even say mediocre for a person with a degree in music! Of course, sorry for this arbitrary action, I asked Mrs. Voshtina that the scenographer could be replaced with another one, since we had half a year. At the same time, reminding the director that in a lyrical opera, the libretto and music are the main ones, while scenography, costume design, direction, etc., are very important, but always not a function of the libretto and music. But the director did not deign to give me any answer! On December 20, 2023, the 2024 calendar was announced. I took part convinced that my opera "Rozafa" would automatically be placed on the 2024 calendar. But, to my surprise, I noticed that despite the fact that we are on the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Albanian National Theater of Opera and Ballet, and when Mrs. Voshtina did not say that "TKOB will not stop speaking Albanian, there was only one Albanian work, with the explanation that 30% of the audience are foreigners!
I asked the director Voshtina:
- When do you plan to stage the legendary opera "Rozafa" that sings in the Albanian language?
- He didn't answer me!!
Her explanation is absurd to me, on a very important anniversary for the national opera (70th anniversary), where a new Albanian opera is presented, based on an Albanian legend (Rozafa), with an Albanian composer and playwright (Fadil Kraja)..., absurd , without logic, inexplicable!” , says the artist further.
Given its formation and the fact that this work would complete the lackluster picture of Albanian operas in these three decades of democracy, Tukiçi calls the decision absurd, while posing other questions to the director of TKOb, violinist Abigela Voshtina, about the stage spaces where Albanian works are performed, if not in our country.
"It would be in the pleasure and honor of the Albanian public, but also every foreign public (30%), to hear and know a new Albanian opera, of course also in my honor as David, an Albanian composer! My opera "Rozafa", approved by the Opera Theater and won by the Ministry of Culture, is not performed by the personal decision of the "director" Voshtina! I think that regardless of her personal education, musical training, etc., she has an institutional duty to integrate a national work into the Opera's programming, leaving aside personal taste, friendships, sympathy or antipathy. Otherwise, I think, she should give way to someone else, who serves Opera and Albanian art with deeds and not with words!
Again I ask the "director" Voshtina:
-Ku duhet të shkojmë ne kompozitorët shqiptarë për të vënë në skenë operat tona nacionale të shkruara mbi trashëgiminë tonë të mrekullueshme kombëtare ???!!!
Te dashur miq, ju uroj me zemër gëzuar vitin e ri, shëndet dhe gëzime në familjet tuaja, por edhe me muzikë të bukur shqipe, operistike dhe çdo gjë tjetër që populli ynë i talentuar krijon …. nëse dikush që drejton institucionet na jep mundësinë....megjithëse e ka për detyrë!!”, shkruan më tej.
Teatri Kombëtar i Operas dhe Baletit ka reaguar pas postimit të tij, ku ka thënë se bllokimi ka ardhur për shkak të mosmarrëveshjeve.
Reagimi i TKOB:
Marrë shkas nga reagimi i kompozitorit, David Tukiçi, në prezantimin e Kalendarit Artistik 2024, dhe interesit të mediave, Teatri Kombëtar i Operës, Baletit dhe Ansambli Popullor sqaron se:
Dashamirësia e institucionit ka qenë maksimale ndaj kësaj vepre dhe kjo tregohet me përfshirjen e saj në Kalendarin Artistik të vitit 2023 dhe vënien në dispozicion të të gjitha burimeve të tij, duke pasur angazhim maksimal për vënien në skenë të kësaj opere.
Puna për këtë opera është vonuar për shkak të debateve dhe mosmarrëveshjeve që z. Tukiçi si kompozitor ka pasur me regjisorin dhe skenografin e kësaj vepre, Andis Gjoni, prej më shumë se 2 muajsh, duke tejkaluar tagrin e kompozitorit dhe duke i dhënë vetes kompetencat e Drejtorit Artistik, Dirigjentit, përzgjedhësit të roleve, skenografit dhe regjisorit, që krijojnë dosjen e produksionit, nga e cila zhvillohet i gjithë buxhetimi i interpretimit skenik.
Mosbashkëpunimi nga ana e tij me regjisorin ka krijuar paqëndrueshmëri e vonesa në procesin e punës, dhe nuk i lejonte teatrit të ndërvepronte, duke bërë që të tejkalohej çdo afat për realizimin profesional të saj. Duke e bërë të pamundur përfshirjen e kësaj vepre në Kalendarin e Artistik 2024.
TKOBAP ka treguar dhe tregon një kujdes të veçantë ndaj kompozitorëve dhe veprave shqiptare. Gjatë vitit të kaluar në skenë u vendosën “Karnavalet e Korçës”, opera solemne “Skënderbeu- Kryezot i Arbërit”, si dhe janë përkujtuar me koncerte simfonike kompozitorët shqiptarë, si Simon Gjoni, Dhora Leka, Aleksandër Peçi etj. Po ashtu gjatë këtij viti, do ngjitet në skenë “Plaga e Dhjetë e Gjergj Elez Alisë” nga Kompozitori Feim Ibrahimi, ndërsa edhe kalendari artistik i këtij viti, mbyllet me koncertin simfonik për Dhora Lekën dhe Kalendari Artistik 2024 nis me kompozimet shqiptare të Feim Ibrahimit dhe Aleksandër Peçit.
TKOBAP ka dhënë një mbështetje të pa kursyer për kompozitorët shqiptarë, për të nxitur krijimtarinë e re dhe për të ndihmuar kompozitorët e rinj të vijnë në TKOB.
For this reason, during the year 2023, the "Competition for Young Composers" was organized with the aim of bringing new Albanian composers and new pieces to the Opera Theater. While another competition has been opened for the compositions of the Folk Ensemble "Gjerdani i Artë", by artists of all ages, to bring their creations to TKOBAP, and to enrich Albanian music with new works.
