"The witches laughed"/ Orphan since 5 years old, Mehdi Malkaj talks

A living legend of Albanian art, a great actor and artist, the words to describe Mehdi Malkajn would be endless, for what he has given and continues to give to Albania and Albanians for years and years.

Invited to the moderator Pranvera Borakaj's "Quo Vadis" on Vizion Plus, Malkaj confessed the difficulties and dramas he went through in his life, and one of them was the death of his mother at a young age.

Malkaj said that his mother left him when he was still 5 years old and that his father got married a few years later. Asked if they accepted the stepmother at first, Malkaj said that no one ate the baklava she had cooked.

Excerpts from the conversation:

Borakaj: Did your father get married soon?

Malkaj: I don't remember that, but I believe so. Somewhere from the fourth grade it was me.

Boracay: Did you accept it?

Malkaj: At that time it was not acceptable or not. Aunty made that conversation, it was no longer discussed. But one made baklava, no one ate it.

He told how he had left school when his classmates laughed at him for his torn shoes.

While laughing, he said that years later, they apologized to him, and that their action came at that time when they were only children.

Malkaj:  I had started to be someone since I was 14, and my mind was lying to me. I could not avoid the man that I am. They saw a movement of the big toe, we caught them at that time with mine wire, they were beautiful colors, we covered the torn ones like this, they saw it. And you see...

Borakaj:  Did you understand?

Malkaj:  I was very insulted. I sweep with my left foot because I am left-handed. She on the head of the teacher and I stairs. The teacher came to me from behind, Medi, there is nothing, we love you very much, come back. After 4 days I entered the office. The work was hard. Agron Llakaj's mother, Drita, a very hard-working lady, did heavy work. I had to get some beams to come to the wagons, I couldn't do it. I carried one, dragged the other, sat on the third. He came to me and said what are you doing? I can't do it, I told him. He took them himself and took them, the next day he took me to an easier job. First salary, great fun. The first thing I did was buy the shoes. I went to the schoolyard at recess, just so they could look at me.

Borakaj:  Did they see those shoes?

Malkaj:  No, the witches didn't see them.

Borakaj:  Do you remember their names, have you met them?

Malkaj:  No, I don't remember their names, we haven't met. But in a show that I was on, one of them took the phone and said: Mehdi, oh star, oh the best, we were kalamaj. Where is the other one, I said, it's in Australia, thank you. I was with Emma Andrea and I told her this is one of those.
