The former socialist prime minister, Pandeli Majko, has warned of a tough electoral campaign and accusations like those against him by Sali Berisha for electoral crimes.
Pandeli Majko, in an interview with Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, sees Berisha's attack as connected to his transition from Kukësi to the electoral battleground of Tirana.
" I am used to attacks because attacks are natural in politics, much less in an electoral situation that seems to be a very tough electoral situation. What worries me at the moment in front of the public is that a process is happening called the marriage of a lie with the truth. So the distinguishing line between what is truth and lies has been lost. Because one truth is married to 10 lies and the public has a hard time understanding who does what. So I thought that the fairest procedure was not to enter into general debates. I addressed SHISH through the president of the assembly, asking her to make the relevant clarification ", he said to Top Channel.
But has Pandeli Majko met the characters mentioned by Berisha as part of an alleged environmental recording by the local branch of SHISH in Kukës?
" Of course not. Especially with the former police director who, according to the media's evaluations, during the period that I was delegated to Kukës, i.e. in the elections of May 2023, he had already left in 2021. So I could not meet with someone who had two years away. Yesterday they told me that his name has changed from Alban to Ardian, more precisely the former director of OSHE", he said.
For the moment, Pandeli Majko excludes a legal battle in court for defamation against the chairman of PD-Sali Berisha.
" I have a principle. I do not make accusations of such nature. I have not done it for any journalist or politician because I think that if I were to do this again it would take a lot of time and funding. I think that every citizen is very clear that I could not go to Kukës and win the elections by selling poles ", declared Majko.
However, the next Majko-Berisha clash will be moved to an electoral area which Majko does not indicate, but Top Channel learns that it is of great weight and importance for the Democratic Party.
"Hopefully in an interesting area. Without a difficult discussion , "he said.
What do you expect from this area?
" To do my best for PS. My family" , said Majko.
And while the socialists have set the standard of not commenting on those who entered and left SPAK, the former socialist prime minister gives a brief answer as to how it feels when fellow deputies, former ministers or even mayors become subjects of the special prosecution.
" I feel bad. Too bad. And I especially feel bad when I see people who are accused of attacking my colleagues" , said Majko.
