Opposition action, Alimehmeti: Protest to oppose Rama's autocracy

Ilir Alimehmeti, member of the National Council of the Democratic Party of Albania, and one of the most voted names on the open list of candidates for MP in the May 11 elections, although he did not manage to obtain a mandate as an MP, has spoken about the strategy that the opposition should follow in the fall.

From the News24 studio, Alimehmeti said that it is up to the DP forums to determine how to proceed, while he emphasized that protests are a very important component in opposing 'autocracy'.

"Standing in front of an autocracy cannot be solved in other ways, at a time when institutions are seized. What remains for people is the path of protests. In a democratic country, protests are legal. The way they are organized remains to be discussed, but I see them as a key element," declared Alimehmeti.

He said that what the opposition considers a farce regarding the May 11 elections, while the result is considered manipulated, should also be denounced.

"We have an obligation to inform the international community and the media. The OSCE/ODIHR report is delayed and it is a key point that we are missing at the moment. The fact that it is delayed shows that there is something that is hindering it," he said.
