Fatmir Xhafaj, the socialist MP, who is running on the SP's open list for the Tirana district in the May 11 elections, positively evaluated the work of SPAK and GJKKO.
Xhafaj said that today these two structures have the maximum support of public opinion and the majority.
On the show 'Kjo Javë' on News24, Xhafaj was asked if the majority gave the sword of justice to SPAK, an expression that Prime Minister Edi Rama has repeated in electoral meetings, and he said: this is true.
"No one denies that this reform was initiated by us. I challenge anyone to show me a recommendation, a previously prepared project, precisely to bring these two structures to this level. So it was our concept, our will. From this point of view, Edi Rama is completely right, that we had the will, the vision to build it", said Xhafaj.
But he emphasized that SPAK and GJKKO are not reforms in justice, but part of it.
"That institution would not exist without the justice reform. SPAK is not a reform, it is a part of the reform."
The part where it investigates is the most sensitive, including people in power, it would be a big mistake if we judged SPAK and GJKKO as the only ones who focused on justice issues. No one can deny that without justice reform there would be no SPAK and GJKKO”, said Xhafaj.
On the other hand, Xhafaj emphasized that as initiators of the justice reform, the majority knew that it would be part of the SPAK investigation, as they had determined the objects and subjects of the investigation.
Asked if the SP has been shocked by the recent arrests carried out by SPAK, Xhafaj said yes, especially when it comes to colleagues and collaborators.
"We had definitely determined that we were part of the special investigation at these levels, we had determined the objects and subjects, so we were enough that there would be consequences for us as well."
"Has SPAK been shocked? It is definitely appropriate to investigate, to detain someone who is no longer a colleague or collaborator, I call it a shock," said Xhafaj.
Regarding the attacks on the work of the Special Prosecution Office, Xhafaj said that a distinction should be made between intimidation against their work and debates about improving these institutions.
"The way they do it, the standards, are part of the debate. Here we must divide. Intimidation, the attack to remove them from their work, from the debate to be successful within the limits of the constitution and the law. It would be wrong to consider it unnecessary. It is better when there is a discussion, the justice institutions, society do it first, as no harm comes from the debate or discussion," said Xhafaj.
