"Band of paid hooligans", Koçiu reacts again: Burning

Interior Minister Albana Koçiu has reacted again regarding the violent scenarios during the opposition protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office and then the Parliament, where Molotov cocktails, fireworks and hard objects were thrown.

Koçiu writes that the DP is using the same scenarios with smoke and flames, also using harsh tones towards the organizers and participants who, according to her, have been involved in acts of vandalism.

"We are seeing it again. The same ugly show, the same old scenography with smoke and flames, coming from the basements of a politics in agony. Another paid 'revolution', where Molotov cocktails replace words and masks hide shame ," declared Koçiu.

She emphasized that a just cause cannot be based on violence and a gang of paid hooligans.

"Let's put it bluntly, without any gloves: A just cause does not need masks or Molotov cocktails. Whoever is right has the support of the people, not a gang of paid hooligans. Whoever has ideas has the vote," the minister said.

Koçiu added that the use of violence is a sign of political incompetence. "When the ballot box has become your biggest nightmare for two decades, then the only way is violence as the last refuge of incompetence,"  she declared.

In her reaction, the minister condemned the burning of institutions and attacks on the State Police, describing it as a crime.

"Burning down institutions is not politics, it is vandalism. Attacking the State Police is not bravery, it is a crime," Koçiu stressed.

According to her, the protest does not represent the citizens, but undermines the stability and image of the country, which according to her "is working against stability, against the security of every family and against the image of the country."

Koçiu also warned the organizers to reflect on the consequences of the acts of violence, emphasizing that Albania "is no longer the one of '97 nor the one of your mental turmoil."
