Clash between Bardhi and Vengu in the Parliament over the port of Durres and security
In Thursday's plenary session, MP Gazment Bardhi and Defense Minister Pirro Vengu exchanged direct accusations regarding political positions and issues affecting national security.
Minister Vengu criticized Bardhi for his political moves over the years, citing the transition from Lulzim Basha to Sali Berisha. He accused the MP of using political rhetoric to attack the government and of presenting the situation in the country in a negative way in various public spaces.
In his speech, Vengu also stopped at the port of Durrës. He stated that the port infrastructure has changed significantly compared to previous years and invited the deputies to get to know the developments in Albanian logistics closely. The minister emphasized that he participated in a NATO ministerial, where, according to him, the decision was made to include Corridor 8 and the Durrës port complex in Porto Romano in the critical infrastructure of the alliance. He added that since 2022 he has been part of the efforts to include this project in NATO priorities.
Vengu: You spend your time blackening the country and you transfer political slander to every possible media or political frequency. You, my dear colleague, have also formulated political lynching as a weapon, but the only courage you have is the transition from Luli to the doctor. Regarding the port of Durres, I remember very well how it was many years ago and how it is now.
I invite you to visit again and again because you do not know Albanian logistics. I was part of a NATO ministerial, important for us because the decision was made that was insistently requested by the Albanian government.
Since 2022, I have been part of the team that has sought the inclusion of Corridor 8 and the Durrës port complex in Porto Romano in the alliance's critical infrastructure.
On the other hand, Bardhi declared that the current government will leave power and that, according to him, the minister is responsible for the way he exercises his duty. He described Vengu as a threat to national security even in the position of Minister of Defense.
Bardhi: Mr. Minister, you are wasting your time because this government will change and your fate is already written. You continue to be a threat to national security in your new position as Minister of Defense.
The debate took place in harsh tones and was followed by other reactions from the deputies in the hall.
