The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has revealed the reason why he did not meet with the chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, during his visit to Tirana.
The lack of a meeting between them was commented on by political opponents as a sign of lack of support or political isolation.
Berisha stated that he does not hold any positions in parliamentary committees and that the delegation held meetings at the Assembly headquarters, while he received in his office the coordinator of the parliamentary group of the European People's Parties, a group with which the DP is affiliated.
"I met the coordinator. The coordinator of the parliamentary group of the People's Parties met with me. I do not have functions in parliamentary committees, as you know.
They come for the parliament and they held all the meetings at the parliament headquarters. But at the headquarters, the coordinator of the parliamentary group of the People's Parties, that is, the one who represents the group with which the DP is affiliated, came to me.
And an extremely important conversation took place. The chairman represents everyone else.
So, I believe you got the answer. The AFET chairman is a representative of all groups, while the one who is a representative of the EPP came and had an extended conversation, but left extremely enlightened.
And I can tell you that dinner with Edi Rama will be remembered by them as unique in the degree of hospitality they have ever seen.
"I won't give you details, but it will be remembered by those men and women for the extreme degree of humiliation, they will never forget it," Berisha said.
