Lulzim Basha seems to have left it where he started. Today he was elected head of the Democratic Party, a divided Democratic Party in deep crisis. Speaking to the media, Basha declared that he is now ready for the next battle.
If we go back in time, after every pair of elections Basha said that he had won every battle. He had the same articulation during the protests. It seems he's back where he started.
"I am aware of the difficult time we have gone through and the challenges in which the Democratic Party and the opposition are facing. I know the rivers of disbelief still flow. Inequality before the law. Today does not mark the vote for an individual but marks the start of work. Rivers of mistrust still flow, some true and some sponsored by those who love Albania, without freedom, without equality before the law. Above all, today does not mark the vote for an individual, but marks the start of work and the work begins to build between the two banks of the river of distrust, the bridge between today's bank of Albanians' despair, psychological and economic depression, the millstone of the desire for change and the shore of hope and faith that will bring change in governance regardless of political beliefs. It's not supposed to be easy, but the democrats showed that we are ready to face another battle. Albania expects the democrats to return to their duties to protect the public interest", said Basha.
