The European Union has rejected the 'threatening' reactions of Athens, for blocking funds and Albania's path towards the EU.

A senior EU official said that the European Union does not interfere in Albanian justice issues, which in this particular case is about Fredi Beleri, arrested for the May 14 elections, after being involved in the vote buying scheme, 50 euros each .

" We are continuing to follow developments, but we do not comment on matters that are under investigation. We call and make sure that the process is kept properly ." - said in the reaction to Report tv.

Earlier, after the protest organized in Himare, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted by asking the representatives of Athens to obey the law.

" This step, taken like an elephant's foot in a glass shop, can bring about the regressive consequence of rekindling the flag of nationalism, and of the mutual negative feelings that flag gives rise to misinformed layers and certain groups of extremists, who barely they are waiting for these cases with a can of gasoline in hand, which I do not even doubt for a second that not only I and the Albanian government, but also the prime minister and the Greek government do not want it at all."

Beler's stay in prison prevents him from taking the oath. According to Albanian law, if Beleri is not sworn in within a period of 3 months, after the constitution of the Municipal Council, then the Albanian government has the right to dismiss him. The council was constituted on June 27, which means Beler's maximum deadline for swearing in is September 27. This issue has become a hot topic between Greece and Albania , Rama declared.

We recall that a few days ago, the Greek government threatened through the Minister of Labor that it will become an obstacle for the integration of Albania in the EU.

"Albania will forget the money from Europe if Fredi Beleri is not sworn in as the mayor of Himara. Albania will pay a very high price if it continues to violate the rights of the Greeks," said Adonis Georgiadis.

Relations between Tirana and Athens have been tense due to the arrest of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on August 21 organized an informal dinner with the leaders of the region, but did not invite the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama .

This was interpreted as an official Athens revenge against Prime Minister Rama by not inviting him. At the informal dinner, Greece elected the President, but Bajram Begaj boycotted the invitation with the argument of the previously defined agenda. The Greek media wrote that the message of Kyriakos Mitsotakis was clear for Edi Rama: "the division is deepening".
