Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has condemned the arrest of opposition leader Ekrem Imamoglu and his associates, calling it an attempt to leave Turkey without an opposition.
Through a post on the social network "Facebook", Berisha said that this is a serious act and calls for their immediate release.
"Dear friends, the Turkish authorities yesterday arrested Mr. Ekrem Imamoglu, Mayor of Istanbul and leader of the Turkish opposition, as well as several of his close associates. The Democratic Party of Albania condemns this serious act and considers it an attempt for a Turkey without opposition and calls for their immediate release ," Berisha wrote.
The arrest of the Turkish opposition leader has caused strong protests in Turkey, while President Erdogan has called the opposition hypocritical.
