The deputy of the Democratic Party, Enkelejd Alibeaj, has commented on the current situation of the opposition, while today he announced his departure from the DP Parliamentary Group.
Alibeaj said that the division between the democrats was not about the stamp and logo of the Democratic Party, but was based on principles related to aspects such as the attitude towards the non-grata concept, but also towards the new justice.
According to him, within PD there have always been two currents, a more moderate one and an anti-communist current that had suffered the previous regime. He added that there has never been a good relationship between these currents, as there have been divisions over ideological issues such as property, political persecution, etc.
Alibeaj emphasized that Sali Berisha's party needs "only servants", which he said he cannot do.
"Our separation was not about the logo or the seal. The separation has been principled, for the political morality that uses the non-grata concept. It was due to the responsibility that the highest political representatives have to bear towards phenomena such as corruption or organized crime. The division will apparently be about our attitudes towards the new justice.
DP as it was born had two currents within it. The moderate one and the anti-communist one who had really suffered the regime. They have coexisted in hibernation, they have found a way to walk, but they have never had a good relationship. Issues such as property, respect for the persecuted, and a variety of identity issues have not been clear. It was clearly not a right-wing party. It was an alloy of currents, individuals and interests that cannot stand the test of time. What happened today is also because of this coexistence.
There has not been an ideological axis of conservative values for which you do not compromise. I bear responsibility, I have kept the DP logo in several positions. It's fair to ask anyone, how about you? Everyone must be held accountable. I often wonder, in the position of minister or deputy, a person is valued over attitudes. Until 2013, when Berisha was still the president, I was a deputy and I have been since then, my separation with Berisha's party was in 2013. When the PD that was in government appointed people who were judges or prosecutors during the dictatorship to the CJK, I made a big difference. The question I have for anyone is what should be the attitude that one should take. It is right for an individual in politics to see with his own attitude, with his own activity, whether he has honored the governance of the Democratic Party or blackened its face. I believe that as long as I was the Minister of Justice, I never talked about corruption, breaking the law or violating the interests of Albanians. I feel good about that to be honest.
As time goes on, it is no longer the party I believed in. It is transformed, there are great individual troubles of a person. The way is to keep an honest attitude.
Sali Berisha's party is considered a court, there is only room for servants. I cannot be a servant. Albanians do not need servants to bow to the next king. I have the utmost respect for anyone who thinks differently than me, that's the reason for my choice. Not to fight with backstabbing, but I love to fight face to face. Why not let Sali Berisha and his own party face the citizens in his own respect and distance. For me it is the past and it is not an offer", said Alibeaj for "News 24".
