Berisha has no rivals in the May 23 elections, Shehi: There has never been
Dashamir Shehi

The opposition protests are becoming increasingly tiresome and pointless. Dashamir Shehi, the leader of the National Development Movement, invited to 'Today Live in Albania', said that these rallies are being held as if a party is being organized.

Shehi, on the other hand, stressed that there has never been democracy within the DP. According to him, such protests are also being held to divert attention from the May 23 elections, which Shehi describes as worthless.

"The Democratic Party has made protests as if they were getting engaged - every two weeks, we wait for the date and have a party. It has turned them into a routine. Protests are held for a specific topic, like the one in North Macedonia. Protest is a popular rebellion, while these are party organizations. For it to be a protest, the opposition must activate the citizen, not the militants.

Protests are held once or twice a year, how can they be held week after week? I think that they are also held for these elections that have no value. Berisha is alone in the race. They need to deal with serious things, such as administrative reform, deal with the electoral law. That is why I think that there is no chance for them to come to power. There is no democracy within the DP and there never has been," said Dashamir Shehi.

Shehi also underlined that there is no competition on May 23, as it is known that Berisha will be the winner. He considers this ridiculous.

"There is no competition there, Berisha will win, and for me it is a ridiculous thing. The basic function of the opposition in Albania and in the world is to overthrow the government it faces, if they don't do it then they are not for this. Let Berisha stay where he is to keep the DP, the rest of us must find new paths.

Democracy is a big word! Democracy is freedom + political pluralism + independent institutions + democratic culture + above-average economy. Democracy in Albania has been understood since Enver Hoxha left. We have changed a lot economically, but not politically”, concluded Shehi.
