The Socialist Party and the Democratic Party have not reached an agreement on extending the deadlines of the Territorial Reform Commission.

In a press conference from the blue headquarters, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused the majority of intending to approve the reform without the participation of the opposition, claiming that the process is being led by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"The SP wants to approve it without the DP. We conclude that the process is being interrupted. The consultations, foreseen and approved according to the rules, have not been completed. Boçi has done an excellent, serious job and as soon as Boçi requested what we had, he made a condition, that this commission be assisted by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, which is also the institute with the greatest expertise in this field. Suddenly, Rama orders the commission to proceed unilaterally. We have our platform, but we trusted and appreciated having a wise advisor who has all the European expertise in territorial reforms to do the best," said Berisha.

The leader of the Democrats also stated that the DP is against the proposal presented the day before by the co-chair of the commission, Arbjan Mazniku, which envisages reducing the number of municipalities and dividing the country into regions.

"The SP will go separately, that is their solution. We stand against the variant presented by them, against the existing one, and we will make every effort to oppose this reform," Berisha continued.

During the conference, Berisha was also asked about the agreement between the parties to extend the deadlines of the Electoral Reform Commission, as well as whether one of the protesters' demands, that of a national proportional system with open lists, was included in the discussions.

In his response, the leader of the Democratic Party said that the majority is not willing to accept the protest's demands.

"Rama is determined not to accept any demands of the youth civic protest. We have supported all their demands. Here there is a big difference between us and them," said Berisha.
