Former Prime Minister Berisha hosted a meeting with some young people studying at the largest private university in Hungary, Mathias Corvinus Collegium.
Berisha discussed the common friendship between the two countries and the drama that communism caused in Albania and Hungary.
He emphasized that Albania suffered from a triple dictatorship. During this meeting, the former prime minister underlined the importance of pluralism, saying that it can easily be lost.
Berisha accused Rama, who said that as the mayor of Belgrade, the prime minister is only taking the country backwards in every direction.
"It was a special pleasure to host a group of students from Mathias Corvinus Collegium, the largest private university in Hungary, based in Budapest
With the young people, we talked about the friendship that the two Albanian and Hungarian nations share with each other, focusing in particular on the tragic history of the communist period that has characterized both countries.
But unlike Hungary and the rest of Eastern Europe, Albania was the only country to suffer a triple dictatorship. A dictatorship of oppression and class war, a dictatorship of the tyranny of hunger and poverty, and a dictatorship of total isolation from the world.
It is vital that we invest as much as possible in educating younger generations about the importance of political pluralism and how easily it can be lost.
It is precisely pluralism, free competition, limiting the role of the state, freedom of speech and media, these are the values that enabled Albania to get out of the clutches of communist poverty, becoming a regional reference within two decades. Thus, Albania in 2013, according to the World Bank, came out of the category of poor countries to be considered a developed country with the highest salaries in the Western Balkans.
Unfortunately, thanks to the mayor of Belgrade, Edi Rama, today Albania is only taking steps behind by offering the lowest salaries in the region, with the highest level of depopulation and with political freedoms more endangered than ever", said Berisha during his speech . .
