Tirana is ready 24 hours before the arrival of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

Albanian and American flags have been placed on the Boulevard "Dëshmorët e Kombit" where Blinken will pass, and on the facade of the Polytechnic Faculty, a banner of a high-ranking American official has been placed, with the inscription "Welcome Mr. Blinken".

For this event, the police have strengthened the security measures for the 8-hour stop of the American secretary who in 2021 declared non grata the former prime minister Sali Berisha .

1000 police forces will be committed to security while the roads from Rinas and the areas where Blinken will have meetings will be blocked.

The forces engaged for the security of the visit of the high American official will be the RENEA, Operational and FKS forces.

The press conference between Prime Minister Edi Rama and US Secretary Antony Blinken is scheduled to be held between 16:00 and 17:00.

Blinken also has a meeting with President Begaj on his agenda.

The spokesman of the American State Department, Matthew Miller, shortly before Blinken's arrival in Tirana, commented on the visit of the American secretary and said that Albania is a key partner for stability and progress in the Western Balkans, as well as a strong voice of Ukraine's defense.

In a press conference, he gave some details about the agenda of the senior American official.

In his statement, Miller announces that Blinken's visit to Albania is the first and reaffirms the strength of the United States' relationship with Albania. Also, another point that Miller appreciates is the mandate held by Albania in the UN Security Council and as Chairman of the OSCE for 2020.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, former US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, said that Blinken's visit to Albania will focus on "the future of Albania, the future of the Western Balkans and that of Europe". .

Former Albanian ambassador Yuri Kim said that Blinken will single out the cooperation of the United States with Albania.

She said that Secretary Blinken will stay in Albania from 11:00 in the morning until 19:00-20:00 in the evening and during the visit he will have meetings with President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama. Then there is expected to be an appearance before the media with Prime Minister Rama. Former Ambassador Kim also said that Blinken will also meet with a group of about 100 young people who have studied in programs offered by the United States such as Fulbright and the International Leadership Visitor Program, IVLP.

The measures taken and restrictions before and during the visit according to the Police are:

Starting from 19:30 on 14.02.2024 until 20:00 on 15.02.2024, on the streets "Faik Konica", "Dervish Hima", "Ismail Qemali" (in front of the Presidency of the Assembly), "Gjergj Filipi", "Lek Dukagjini", Rruga e Elbasan, "Pope John Paul II", boulevard "Bajram Curri", boulevard "Martyrs of the Nation", as well as "Free Ukraine" street (Constitutional Court), parking of vehicles on the street will be prohibited and in designated parking spaces.

In the time slots 09:30-12:30 and 17:30-20:00, dated 15.02.2024, traffic will be prohibited on the following roads:

1. Secondary interurban Fushë Prezë-Rinas;

2. Secondary interurban Rinas-Qafë Kashar and vice versa;

3. Main interurban road Qafë Kashar - former Shqiponja square and vice versa;

4. Main interurban former Shqiponja-Teg-Sanatorium square and vice versa;

5. Elbasan street, "Dervish Hima" street, "Faik Konica" street, "Pope John Paul II" street, "Ismail Qemali" street, "Themistokli Germenji" street, "Abdyl Frashëri" street, "Free Ukraine" street , "Gjergj Filipi" street, "Dëshmorët e Kombit" boulevard and "Bajram Curri" boulevard.

▪️ Alternative route

Citizens who want to go to "Mother Teresa" airport, on 15.02.2024, from Durrës and the north, will respectively follow the direction Vorë-Fushë Prezë-Rinas and return, Fushë Krujë-Fushë Prezë-Rinas and return, while from the southeast and Tirana, will follow the eastern ring-Pharmacy 10-Train Station-Ri Boulevard-Paskuqan-Kamëz-Valias-Rinas Airport, and return to the same itinerary.

For medical emergencies that may affect schedules and congestion, follow secondary and other routes to the respective hospitals, different from those that will be traversed by the American delegation.

The State Police asks for the understanding of all citizens for the security measures and appeals to avoid traffic with road vehicles in the schedules and roads where movement restrictions are foreseen, for security purposes.
