Blinken's visit to Tirana, Salianji: Albania must be raised to a stage

The deputy of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji, describes tomorrow's visit of the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to Tirana as an enrichment of the pro-American tradition of our country.

In a reaction related to this visit, he says that true pro-Americanism should be shown when the country fights corruption, holds free elections and where the government is controlled and accountable.

"Blinken, enrichment of our pro-American tradition. It is good for Albania and for the Albanians, in Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and everywhere, every time a high-ranking American official visits Tirana.

We should be proud of the alliance we have with the USA, for this positioning on the right side of history, this above all comes from the sentiment and orientation of society, of the people of the nation that has overwhelmingly adopted western values.

The special and warm relationship we have with the USA is primarily the merit of the citizens, and then of the politicians.

It was good news for us when Colin Powell, Madeleine Albright, John Carry, Hillary Clinton came, and the culminating event was the visit of George Bush, where what happened a little later, the independence of Kosovo, was confirmed.

The arrival of Antony Blinken enriches this precious tradition, and distinguishes our Tirana as an important center in the region, a key point of strategic partnership.

I am convinced that these relationships should never be taken for granted, they should be constantly nurtured. What we are being asked to do in this regard is not easy. First, we have the task of raising Albania to the stage of a normal democratic country, where human rights are respected, where corruption is fought, where free and fair elections are held, where powers are separated and where the government is controlled and accountable. In this way, we are actually pro-American and deserve the support of the most important country in the world," writes Salianji.
