The Democratic Party, in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), organized a training program for the new deputies of this political force, while Democratic leader Sali Berisha gave the 'first lesson' to the lawmakers.
While considering the role of MPs as noble, Berisha said that for any person with the slightest political ambition, being an MP is the realization of one of the most beautiful dreams of his life.
"You can take on many roles in your life, but none are like that of a member of parliament. Therefore, I hope that this mission will inspire you and become a strong foundation for building a worthy political career."
The MP has a great chance to be formed as an excellent orator in the temple of parliament. There is no more dignified, more beautiful platform than that of parliament to show your oratory. In the universe of its activity, the laws and decisions it adopts, it is undoubtedly your most excellent political university.
It is the opportunity of your life that with laws and decisions, with legislative initiatives, you can influence the lives, the activities of thousands, thousands, thousands of citizens. In the life of the country. So, to exercise in this way, for the good of course, the greatest influence.
But this requires your commitment. It requires great dedication to the parliament, to its activities.
Great commitment in committees, in the hall and everywhere. Of course, a report is the most essential. It is the report of all your reports. It is the report with the voters", said Berisha.
The Democrat leader, who has been part of Parliament since 1991, said that the greatest misfortune for an MP is when he cuts ties with his constituents, their interests.
In this context, Berisha said that meetings with voters are irreplaceable. "Nothing should distract the MP from meeting with his electorate," he added.
But the Democrat leader also raised the issue that MPs today do not have staff either for continuous contact with voters or to support their activities in parliament.
"This is a skeletal parliament, so to speak. When I imagine that 220 thousand salaries are paid in the administration and all that, and you see parliamentarians without any assistants, or at least two or three occupying an office together... this is like saying parliament is a sham.
Therefore, I believe that it is necessary to create conditions for parliamentarians to fulfill their profession with dignity.
"It was wrong, I tell you here, to increase the salaries of MPs. Not that they have, let's say, stratospheric salaries. But it would be much more fair to spend even more on parliamentary staff," Berisha said.
