Adriatik Lapaj, the leader of Shqipëria Bëhet, in a reaction on social networks, has called on Prime Minister Edi Rama to approve without delay the proposal made by this political force to remove VAT on food basket products.
According to Lapaj, this would cause the prices of the basket to decrease by 20%, the same as the value of VAT, if it were to be reduced to zero.
Lapaj's reaction comes at a time when "Albania Becomes" has filed a bill in Parliament to remove the 20% value added tax on food basket products.
"Two meters liar! It's been 13 years since he came to power with this promise and he hasn't kept it. That's why we brought the draft law to abolish the 20% value added tax on food basket products.
"And specifically for eggs, bread, milk, flour, rice, etc. Vote for Edi Rama, because today you have the highest value added tax in the region for food in the basket," says Adriatik Lapaj.
In this context, he has also published the VAT values for food products in the countries of the Region, where Albania has it 5 times higher than Italy and 7% more than Greece.
"VAT for basic food baskets in the countries of the region is significantly lower than in Albania:
In Albania 20%
In Kosovo 8%
In Serbia 10%
In Montenegro 7%
In North Macedonia 0-5% depending on the products
In Italy 4%
In Greece 13%.
"In every field where we talk about the citizen, we are significantly worse than all other countries," Lapaj writes.
