Prime Minister Edi Rama is holding a meeting with the mayors of municipalities in Durrës on the performance of local government in function of the Albania 2030 vision in the EU.
During his speech, Rama focused on illegal construction, while also responding to prosecutor Elsa Gjeli, who has addressed an official letter to the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), expressing concern about the situation and requesting an institutional response.
The Prime Minister said that Prosecutor Gjeli has not launched investigations into Thethi, but according to him, she has written a philosophical essay on the innocence of illegal construction.
"What happened in Theth during the election period, or let's say in the months before and during the elections, was a boom in illegal construction as a result of the preparation for the tourist season. Not one but 40 complaints were made by the state police about these constructions.
The police structure has reported the unauthorized constructions to the prosecutor's office and, as has been reported, in a spectacular flagrance, where an entire tourist village was built in the middle of Theth, a prosecutor with the surname Gjeli has decided not to initiate investigations.
He has refused to see what it is about, he has written a philosophical essay about the innocence of construction without a permit. This is a criminal offense. Meanwhile, construction without a permit in a protected area like Theth is an even more serious criminal offense. On the other hand, IKMT has started to act, but it must be said that whether in Theth or Vlora, or other territories, IKMT", said Rama.
