Meet the 23 officials and organizations blacklisted by the US...
The United States of America, by January 31, 2025, has blacklisted a total of 398 individuals and organizations from the Balkans.
"Voice of America" in Serbian has compiled a database with all those sanctioned from our region and according to published data, Bosnia and Herzegovina is at the top of the list with 177 individuals and organizations sanctioned, followed by Serbia with 80, Kosovo with 60, North Macedonia with 46, Albania with 23 and Montenegro with 11.
This is the first research database of data that includes all sanctions of the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and sanctions announced by the State Department during the period 2017-2024.
If we go to Albania, it is about 19 individuals and 4 organizations. Focusing on the individuals, some are known who they are. There is Adriatik Llalla with his family, Sali Berisha with his family, Tom Doshi with his family and Vangjush Dako with his family. We also have Aqif Rakipi sanctioned by the Treasury Department. But there are also two other people on the list: Idajet Beqiri and Spiro Butka.
Idajet Beqiri is the lawyer we all know and he has been on the Americans' blacklist for many years for inciting extremist acts. While Spiro Butka is the deputy commander of Operation "Arrow" that took place in Kosovo during the KLA, " Pamphlet " reports.
Meanwhile, as for the sanctioned organizations, there are 4 of them. The first is “ Huriya Private FZE LLE ”, a firm based in the United Arab Emirates. But it turns out to be linked to the Russians and all its branches have been sanctioned, including in Albania.
The second name is “ Al-Haramain: Albania Branch ”. It is an organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda. The foundation has been designated by the UN as being affiliated with Osama bin Laden and involved in participating in, financing, planning, facilitating, preparing or carrying out activities on behalf of or in support of Al-Qaeda.
Also on the list is “ Global Relief Foundation Inc. ” This is also an Islamic organization. It has also been described by the Americans as being linked to Al-Qaeda.
Also sanctioned is the “ Islamic Heritage Revival Society .” It is a Kuwait-based organization. It is also suspected of being linked to Al-Qaeda.
