On March 1, the Democratic Party holds primaries, a procedure that is applied to select a list of names of candidates for MPs, who will then pass through the Presidency's filter to represent this party in the May 11 elections.
The process has created debates and dissatisfaction among the Democrats and may perhaps bring back the clash in this party, even though Sali Berisha has taken care to at least maintain 'unity in diversity' with those who were once on Lulzim Basha's side and joined the Rithemelim group.
Invited to "Studio Live" on Report TV, the former leader of the Kukës Democratic Party, Ibsen Elezi, said that this is a "quarrel within the structures", adding that vote theft is openly accepted there and there is no debate.
He sees the process as a failure and that in the end those who want Sali Berisha will be elected, while Bardhi, as the manipulator of these processes, along with others, will be enslaved to be on the list.
"Mr. Gazment Bardhi understands that he cannot succeed in the primaries in the DP. No matter how much Berisha tells his electorate that you will be voted for, they will remember Bardhi's statements and accusations as a manipulator or against Berisha. Bardhi is a discredited figure in public opinion and among the Democrats, for a manipulator to gain a majority, this turns into absurdity.
Helidon Bushati has understood that these primaries are not what they should be. Primaries are a fair competition and an essential democratic debate, and by not applying these criteria, they turn into a quarrel, where the one who does not win or does not agree, shakes the other's hand. There should be a competition process, with debate, views, political positions, with accurate lists. Not the lists like Muli and Albana give and as much as they want, filling out 300 or 400 forms and distorting the result and these are not fair primaries, because their effect is the opposite.
"That's why Bardhi says it's going to get you into trouble. Because the DP doesn't function in an institutional way, where votes aren't counted. I don't know that a good part of the exponents in the DP once asked for it with Luli and now they agree with what Berisha is doing. They hate the vote, the debate and facing the truth. They can't bring progress either to the DP or to Albanian society," said Elezi.
He further recalls that the DP openly accepts theft, because the voting process is not recognized there. He even made a comparison with irony, stating that "it's like telling a thief to take our keys and guard my warehouse!".
"These people have their hands in theft. Albana Vokshi has declared it, and Paloka also said that the votes were stolen. Imagine when the other person says we stole them, this is to put your hands on your head. These people even admit it themselves. Steal, steal, steal, and where does this lead now? They are servile to Berisha for a mandate as an MP. They cannot do that process. This is like telling a thief 'give us the keys to guard the warehouse'. Bushati is young himself, I don't believe he ran away for this. Both political entities are giving a bad image to the public, and unfortunately there is no third pole, as Albin Kurti once did", said Elezi.
