An Albania-United Arab Emirates-Italy agreement has been signed for investment in the underwater connection of the energy distribution network in the Adriatic Sea, as well as for investments in increasing production from renewable sources in our country.
The agreement unites the countries in a strategic alliance for renewable energy.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, as well as representatives of the governments of the respective countries.
"The value of the infrastructure is one billion euros and it will function for a maximum of three years," Rama explained, speaking to the Italian press before the summit.
Earlier, during his speech at the Summit, Rama said that the agreement will serve to increase Albania's capacity as a key player in the region, based on its production of 100% renewable energy.
Speaking at the "Sustainability Week" Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he presented the projects, Rama described it as a key step for increasing Albania's capacities in the energy sector and strengthening its position in the region. He also emphasized that this partnership will contribute not only to energy, but also to peace and cooperation in the region.
"Strategic agreement with Italy and the Emirates for submarine cables that has been mentioned as an important instrument not only for the transmission of renewable energy to increase Albania's capacity as a key player in the region. This step for the region and Europe would not have been possible without the cooperation of the Emirates and without someone I want to mention who was key in the orientation, Dr. Sultan Axhav. The partnership with the Emirates in the energy sector is very important for a region where many wars and conflicts, misunderstandings have shaped our past and the desire to be part of the large European family must be supported with concrete initiatives to overcome the past. The cooperation between the state-owned company and Masdar aims to develop up to 3 gigawatts of renewable energy", said Rama.
