Although he holds himself out as strong in foreign policy, Prime Minister Edi Rama has not managed to win everyone over. Today, he faced strong criticism in the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, where the Enlargement Commissioner's Report was discussed.
German MEP Michael Gahler, who is also the coordinator of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament, has not been sparing with the Albanian prime minister, describing him as an egomaniac. He has asked the EU to increase monitoring of the socialist government.
“ Briefly on Albania, since we have the chairman of the committee there, please speak when you go there at some point, also speak to a wide range of actors. I think the prime minister there is exercising his power in a very egomaniacal way. I think this is not in line with EU standards. Please take a specific look at Albania. Thank you ,” he said.
Meanwhile, another MEP, Gambino, has warned the EU to pay increased attention to the May 11 elections in Albania, raising suspicions that there may be interference from abroad, namely Russia.
" With political elections in Albania approaching in May of this year, it would be useful for the commission to consider what can be done to avoid any kind of interference in these elections from abroad. Unfortunately, we have seen this happen in both Georgia and Moldova ," he said.
