The campaign moves to the diaspora, PDIU meeting with Albanians in Pavia, Italy!

PDIU Chairman Shpëtim Idrizi, together with PDIU MPs Mesila Doda and Nustret Avdulla, had a meeting with members of the Albanian community of Pavia, Italy.

During the meeting, Idrizi, after giving an overview of the activities of the PDIU and the national causes that this force supports, emphasized the need for a special program for the old and new diaspora, which is as numerous as the residents within the country's borders.

" Today we have 2.4 million Albanians living in Albania and 1.7 million Albanians living abroad across the globe, which has truly created another Albania. This other Albania, which constitutes over 40% of the population, contributes 1 billion euros to the Albanian economy every year, directly influencing poverty alleviation but also economic development and growth."

Your contribution to your homeland and your families is vital and in these years existential. What has the Albanian state done for you? What about the political parties that today come to ask for your vote? The PDIU is and has always been attentive, perhaps also because of its affiliation and similarity to the forcibly displaced.

We have proposed to the Albanian state and the government of the time the need to create an important institution like the Ministry of Diaspora, to address the problems of emigration. Then it was agreed on the National Committee and then in 2014-15 with the government of the time to establish the Ministry of Diaspora. We have studied the best models of countries with developed emigration such as Italy, Armenia, Croatia, Greece, etc.

Today, unfortunately, there is no longer a Ministry of Diaspora! Some are asking for your vote even though they abolished this ministry, and some who did not even intend to create it! So, for 2.4 million Albanians there are 12-13 ministries and several state ministers and over 1000 dependent and independent institutions, for 1.7 million Albanians who live abroad and support a good part of them inside.

Unfortunately, today there is no institution that addresses the many problems of emigration! How will we integrate these two Albanian realities with each other is our next challenge. Maintaining strong ties with the mother country and especially preserving, enriching and increasing the Albanian national identity of Albanians abroad is a duty and interest of the Albanian state , "said Idrizi.

He further emphasized that the strong preservation of the Albanian national identity is achieved by preserving and learning the Albanian language, history, preserving culture and enriching national heritage.

" Preserving this identity, opening Albanian schools wherever there are Albanians is the duty of the Albanian state. Let us not forget that we are moving into the second and third generation of emigration and the ties and belonging to the motherland are beginning to fade. Facilitation of various documents for emigrants should be an absolute priority of the government and we should be grateful that they want this. Organizing the diaspora into associations and organized interest groups is our interest and priority. Involving diaspora businesses and creating every space for them in the Albanian economy; The diaspora vote as a right delayed and denied for many years is an important moment in the history of Albanian pluralism. The diaspora vote is decisive in these elections; "Albanians living abroad cannot be the only community we turn to to ask for votes, but there must be a clear program for how they should be supported by the Albanian state, for the preservation of the Albanian language through schools and teachers, and the opening of cultural centers that, with their activity, keep the national identity alive ," he added.
