"There is rivalry within the SP lists, but not a fierce war within the party." This was stated by the Speaker of the Assembly and the SP's political leader for Tirana, Elisa Spiropali, on the "This Week" show on News24. She added that the SP functions as a team that, despite efforts to absorb as many individuals as possible, works to maximize votes for the Socialist Party.
"A system that inevitably has rivalry within the lists, but we managed to conduct a campaign that has a dominant team spirit where each candidate maximizes the vote for the SP. I do not see a fierce war within the species but natural rivalry. We move in meetings as a team where we explain the importance of these elections, because they are not the next elections, but they are of decisive importance for the future of the country and the perspective of membership. We want the process to enter a path of no return and May 11 will be the culmination of the efforts of many years, the aspirations of many generations," she said.
Regarding the decision not to hold televised debates with the opposition, even though its exponents, including the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, have continuously requested such a thing, Spiropali said that it was deemed unnecessary.
According to her, there is no reason why the Socialists should face the language often used by the opposition even in the Assembly, when there are television interviews or confrontations with journalists to reveal the SP program and what this government has done during its mandates.
"The opportunity to hold alternative debates has been continuously available in the Assembly. Periods of political conflict have dominated constructive debate. If you notice the language used, which is surprisingly not noticed by political analysts, calling a political opponent a criminal, a thief and a scoundrel from morning to night is not holding a political debate or presenting your program. It is not the way a modern democratic politics presents alternatives. The Assembly was an example where these periods dominated the debate. Therefore, there is no reason to engage in a debate with this language, we have the opportunity to present what we have done and our program in interviews and confrontations with journalists," she said.
