Gazment Bardhi "sues" the SP to the Albanian reporter in Brussels: The
Gazment Bardhi in a meeting with the Albanian reporter in the EP

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the PD of Reestablishment, Gazment Bardhi, met today with the rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Isabel Santos.

Bardhi informed the MEP about the developments in the Assembly, the progress of the reforms and the problems facing Albania in its European journey.

"Mrs. Isabel Santos, rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, I informed her about the efforts of the opposition for Albania to have a functional Parliament, which respects the constitutional rights of the opposition, allows effective control over the Government, and which works in the interest of the citizens.

The non-implementation by the Assembly of the decisions of the Constitutional Court is an undermining of the principles of the rule of law and the most brutal unconstitutional act that has occurred in 33 years.

The majority must give up trying to control the institutions of justice and any attempt to politically control justice.

Also, I informed him about the 2-year blocking of the Electoral Reform by the majority and the need for Albania, as a candidate country for EU membership, to hold free and fair elections next year. I assured him that for the opposition the fulfillment of the recommendations of the OSCE /ODIHR, the guarantees for equality in elections, and the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court, are a priority not only announced, but the starting point of a meaningful electoral reform, which must be completed as soon as possible", says Bardhi.

On the eve of the end of the term of the Electoral Reform Commission, the Socialist Party has clarified the proposals for the New Electoral Code. The focus of the socialists has been the composition of the voting centers and the Zonal Election Administration Commission.

More specifically, SP proposes that KZAT consist of 5 Members, selected by the CEC and 4 political monitors without decision-making rights. Also, the socialists propose that the KQV (voting centers) consist of 3 members (from the state administration) appointed by the CEC and 4 political monitors without decision-making rights. As for counting centers, the majority in their draft proposes to consist of 2 members and 4 monitors.

Stopping at the KQV and KZAZ, according to the socialists, the political monitors should sign the minutes of the opening and closing of the voting, certifying or contesting the process through remarks in the minutes.

Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that if an agreement is not reached, then the socialists are satisfied with this Electoral Code, and while he has also raised the idea of not setting up Commissions for important reforms, they will pass through the Assembly.
