Zvërnec seems to be creating a new clash between Athens and official Tirana, while Greece is making the most of the created situation, using the violation of minority rights and the encroachment on claimed properties.
The entire attack directed by Athens since Saturday, when the clash in Zvërnec occurred, is being treated as a robbery of the properties of Greek minorities, while essentially it seems that Greece's concern has to do with the investment in Zvërnec, which according to public statements by Prime Minister Edi Rama could reach 4.5 billion euros.
Official Athens and then the Greek media have exploited from the first moment the incident that occurred in Zvërnec between a protesting citizen and several civilians, who pose as security guards at a private company, creating a smokescreen that in fact seems to be directly related not to any violation of rights, but to the concern created by the billion-dollar project that, if realized, could directly compete with elite tourism throughout the region, including Greece.
Even Fredi Beyleri, today with the status of a Greek MEP in the European Parliament, has joined the debate that is taking place in Greece.
"35 years after the fall of communism, the ownership status of the area opposite the island where Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, is supposed to make the investment, has still not been clarified. However, looking at the companies that are pushing the project forward, I think they have no connection to Kushner; they are Albanian companies ," said New Democracy MEP Fredi Beleri.
In a recent article in the Greek media , claims are even made that not only Zvërnec is owned by Greek citizens, but also Sazan belongs to Greece.
According to the article, during clashes between police forces and citizens protesting against the construction of a luxury tourist complex in a protected coastal area of the Vlora region, near villages inhabited by the Greek minority, a citizen of Greek origin was injured. The incident prompted the reaction of the Greek Foreign Ministry, which submitted a note of protest and requested a full investigation of the matter.

Greek media writes that the project in Zvërnec envisages the development of an ultra-luxury resort in a protected area, with an investment exceeding one billion euros and which the authorities have described as a "strategic investment".
It is further stated that Edi Rama commented on the Greek claims about Zvërnec in ironic tones.
"For the first time I heard yesterday that there is a homogeneous Greek population in that area. I had never heard it before, maybe because I am not familiar with the issue. I was surprised by the statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry, because it was about an act of violence, but not an act of state violence, as happens with Albanians in Greek prisons. Just as has happened in the past with Albanians on the streets of Greece," Rama said.
And here the Greek media seem to cross every line of imagination by claiming that even though the village has a Slavic name, it is claimed to be inhabited by Greeks, just like Arta (Narta) north of Vlora.
“Both areas have been described as Greek-speaking enclaves for hundreds of years ,” the article continues, noting that “in Zvërnec, the majority of the inhabitants are Orthodox Christians. Near the village there is a Byzantine monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, while to the southwest there is also the church of St. Athanasius.”
Even for the Greek media, the Zvërnec dialect, according to information cited by Wikipedia in the article, is classified among the northern variants of the Greek language.
"Like the Narta dialect, it has been influenced by the Albanian language due to long coexistence. In Zvërnec, the Vlach language has also been spoken since the mid-19th century. Its speakers are said to have descended from the historical Voskopoja. The article emphasizes that Voskopoja was a city with over 50 thousand inhabitants near Korça, which was destroyed during the 18th century riots and later by Ali Pasha Tepelena," the article emphasizes.

And in the context of "opening the bag", the Greek media article states that the island of Sazan, the largest in Albania, has passed through different hands throughout its history.
" It was under Venetian rule, then Ottoman, and in 1864 it passed under Greek administration along with the Ionian Islands. Greece later ceded the island to Albania after Italian pressure, while Italy used it for military purposes. During the Cold War, Sazani remained an important military base for the Soviet and Albanian navies. Today, after decades of strategic military importance, the island is taking on new importance due to tourism. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner plan to invest more than a billion euros in its development ," the article says. /Pamphlet/
